I was always raised with a belief in the paranormal. A spiritualist mother and a large family prone to tragedy, the paranormal has always intrigued and attracted me. The afterlife, spirits, demons, mediums, tarot, and poltergeists have the same magnetic force on me that myths and legends do.

I truly believe this quote by C. Douglas Dillon, that the encounters of the supernatural push the bounds of what we know and can perceive with the human experience. Personally, I have had a few encounters and experiences I am unable to explain rationally, but this isn’t the reason I'm a believer in the supernatural.

I truly believe there is so much more to the universe than that which science can currently explain. After all, those in the past who believed the world was round were considered insane. There is so much about the universe, creation, the afterlife and things seeming impossible to understand today that may just be undiscovered.

An open-mind, and eagerness to learn, has led me many places in my life. I've had conversations that started casually turn into revelations that would change my entire worldview. This is why I'm a big advocate of reading, and reading widely in a variety of genres. Not only do these things become increasingly believable in the mind of someone open to new ideas, but it helps us to meditate on the bigger questions of the world.

Paranormal fiction, while I must admit isn’t one of my biggest genres for reading, need not be written by believers; but it surely helps. The fantastic and magnetic force of paranormal fiction is that it reflects the writer’s perspective on the topic. Spirituality and the paranormal are so personal that each person’s idea of these topics can vary widely, meaning there’s almost an infinite amount of narratives and creatures to be discovered, reinterpreted and personalised.
