I recently wrote a post about my love of mythology, and its influence on my writing. I have sat down and studied the mythology of many cultures, and that inspiration could be transferred to any topic. So, today’s topic is using learning as inspiration for writing.

Learning is an excellent way to spark inspiration for a story. For example, I'm someone who’s quite interested in psychology and the human mind. I did a little bit of learning and now my main character in my current trilogy was a psychology student who uses those skills to read those around her and provide critical help to those she cares about.

Learning about and researching topics of interest and weaving these topics into characters and worlds is a fascinating and unique way to create new stories. To me, learning is an essential part of storytelling, and I try to utilise my current knowledge to add a little bit of myself to the stories I write. Seeking out new subjects and topics to learn is a way to create full, well-rounded story elements.

I urge all writers and creators to learn as much as they can about as many subjects as they can. An interesting, varied and intellectual world of creative works is one I want to live in, and I believe it gives depth and diversity to our tales.
