I think most writers can relate to this quote by Maya Angelou. When we have an idea, it’s almost impossible not to latch onto it and start exploring its possibilities. Even when you try to ignore it, sometimes these ideas refuse to be let go, niggling at our minds until it drives us insane. They seem to unravel themselves inside of us until there’s nothing left to do but just get the words out.

Let's be honest, these ideas that stick with us for months, sometimes years, are often the best stories we write. They're powerful and intriguing. They are stories that are screaming to be told, and only we can tell them. These are the ideas we wait for, dream about and think may never come.

This actually happened to me. I’d stopped writing, fairly confident I'd never hit the keyboard again to tell a story. And I didn’t for four years. Then, one day, I was watching a show and the vague whisper of an idea formed in my brain. I pushed it away, thinking it was a silly idea and someone else would tell the story, then I could read it. Weeks later the whisper became a scream. A world, some characters, and some scenes had unravelled without my permission. Eventually, I couldn’t deny the story any longer, and so my writing career was reborn, and so was the Avalonian trilogy.
